Whining about wine

It is funny how one can change. You can see your interests shift from one place to another. Maybe I am a little more bi-polar with mine - they seem to have shifted from one place to another, but in the end, they changed quickly. At least, they used to.

Like this blog - I put a lot of time into the original xboxblogs. Running them on an original Xbox, no less, was a lot of work. But there was something to be said about having to take down a webserver so I could play Grand Theft Auto. On a Commodore 64 monitor. Hard to believe that, especially these days when I am looking for an HDTV...

But I digress - eventually, I lost interest in the blog. Maybe it was too much focus on something and I ran out of things to say? I'm not sure...but the interest wanned. And here I am - bloated with words and rambling about things that I am sure you could care less about.

But recently, I think I have started to get into an interest that I can see lasting a long while. You see, it started with a book. A cookbook, as a matter of fact. And as much as cookbooks aren't usually the most riveting reads, this one was different. It paired seasonal dishes with wines, discussing the dishes, the wines, and the rational behind each. I found the writing to be almost romantic, and being the romantic that I am, I fell for the ideal, the thought that every dish has its perfect match in the form of fermented grapes.

I won't get into the whole story, but a wine course, several books, and dozens of bottles later, I am more interested than ever. Which is where this blog comes in...or, rather, another, more aptly named one. I'd like to talk about wine, maybe ones that I have tried, different regions, food pairings, and all the stuff that most folks are interested in but not sure exactly how it works.

I'll keep you posted, of course, but that is where my headspace is.

Not that you read this anymore...

...but I am alive, kicking and well. About to move for a second time. That's how I know that it has been a long time since I've taken the time to dump some random thoughts onto your screen.

In fact, since I've last posted:

1) I've had 2 birthdays.
2a) I've formed an obsessive relationship with wine
2b) I scored 102% on the wine fundamentals I course from the International Sommelier Guild
3) I've taken a trip to the Caribbean for work.
4) I'm still married (now there's the shocker!)

So, where do I go from here?

Where I left off? Maybe. Although, I think that number two on the list might sway my writings a little. Maybe. We'll see. Either that or you won't hear from me for a couple years. Both are entirely likely.

A lot can happen...

...in two months that you decide not to post.

So, welcome back. Wait. Can I do that? Can I welcome myself back? Or is that the same as congratulating yourself when you did something right? Ugh. Who knows! Maybe I just don't have any blogequette...

So, the past 2 months in brief:

1) I hurt my back. Quite badly. While playing beach volleyball at work, mind you. When I was diving for a ball, I pulled something in my back. No worries, I thought, I have had pain in my lower back before. By the end of the day I could barely walk. And I am not exaggerating here - I managed to get home and at one point, I could not get up off of the floor to get to the washroom. It was funny/scary/painful all at the same time.

The next day I went to the doctor and found out I had a buldging disc in my lower back. After 6 weeks of anti-inflamatory drugs and 3 weeks of phsyiothrapy I am finally starting to get back to my regular self. I still can't sit for more than a couple hours at a time, but I am not a gimp anymore.

That was May 31st...

2) I stabbed myself in the arm. Quite badly. While cutting boxes at home, mind you. When I was finished cutting the last carboard box to go into the recycling, I managed to stab myself with a 4 inch blade in my left arm. I knew it was bad when I looked down and saw that the wound looked more like a circle than a line...

Long story short, I went in about 1.5 inches, had to go to the emergency room, get a tetanus shot and 2 stitches (2 stitches isn't bad, but HOLY CRAP it was a deep cut).

That was June 26...

3) Julie and I got married. This one wasn't a surprise -- it was perfect. I still can't put into words how fun, perfect, overwhelming, and exciting this was. 4 days of fun with our families - outdoor wedding - excellent photographer (pictures to be posted soon) - wonderful 'reception'. It just could not have gone any better.

That was July 8.

And now, you're up to date.

And I thought *I* was a geek...

Leave it to a couple of kids at MIT to come up with this.

And here I was thinking that I was a geek. No! Nay! Never!

Oh Julie!

Kudos to Julie for this kinda neat thing to do:

Open up your MP3player and put it on random.
For each of these questions, use whatever song comes up as the answer - no cheating!

How do my friends see me?
Can't you hear me knocking? - Rolling Stones

Will I get married?

What is my best friend's theme song?
Lost on Earth - Dora Flood

What is the story of my life?
Mine, mine, mine - Pocahantas Soundtrack

What was high school like?
Girl - Destiny's Child

How can I get ahead in life?
Fuck the pain away - Peaches

What is the best thing about me?
Dancing Nancies - Dave Matthews Band

What is today going to be like?
Colored Spade - Hair Soundtrack

What is in store for this weekend?
Mary, Mary - The Monkeys

How is my life going?

Wow -- some were funny...some make no sense. And some of these songs are "questionable" as to why they are even in my library. I guess when you have over 13500 songs, you're bound to have a couple that make you chuckle.
